Opened in 2017, Mater Private Hospital – Townsville represents PEHA’s first and longest-standing partnership. The hospital offers a comprehensive range of specialist services, including Cardiac, Paediatric, and Orthopaedic care.

Details

Conditions that are treatable at Townsville ED:

  • Urinary problems and infections
  • Skin problems
  • Injuries: Broken bones, sprains, wounds and burns. 
  • Chest and Abdominal Pain: Investigation and assessment of non-critical cases. 
  • Breathing difficulties and respiratory infections
  • Paediatric Care:  We are able to care for most simple paediatric ailments, including the treatment of minor injuries, including cuts, sprains, and fractures. However, specialist paediatric services are not available. 

On-site parking is provided adjacent to the Emergency Department and is accessible via Fulham Road, Pimlico.

The Mater Townsville Emergency Department is managed by our Site Director, Dr Philip Gaudin and Practice Manager, Kerry Hay.

Philip is a founding PEHA Director and has clinical oversight for all PEHA sites. He is also the Deputy Chair of the Private Practice Section for the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine.  Philip is a member of the PEHA Clinical Advisory Committee and is also a director of the PEHA Board. With more than 20 years of clinical experience in a wide range of medical settings, he is a capable and trustworthy leader and physician. Philip studied medicine and surgery as an undergraduate at James Cook University and worked at several public-sector sites across metropolitan, regional, rural, and remote Queensland before moving to Western Australia to undertake his fellowship at Royal Perth Hospital, a centre for excellence in both trauma and medical research.

PEHA Townsville Practice Manager

Kerry oversees the daily administrative operations of the Townsville Mater Emergency Department, working closely with PEHA doctors, Mater nursing, and administrative staff to ensure the site runs smoothly and delivers exceptional patient care. With over 25 years of experience in the private medical sector, primarily in Specialist Care. Kerry joined PEHA in 2023 as a Practice Manager. Her role is dynamic and multifaceted, offering continual opportunities for personal and professional growth within the fast-paced environment of Emergency Care. Kerry is dedicated to fostering a supportive, compassionate environment for both staff and patients, especially during what is often a challenging time in their lives.

PEHA partnered with the Friendly Society Private Hospital in 2018. The Friendlies is a well-established 142-bed surgical and medical facility that has been serving the Bundaberg community for over 100 years. The hospital offers cardiology, oncology, day surgery, general surgery and orthopaedics services.
